New Band Crush: Oberhofer

I saw Oberhofer performing their new single "Away Frm You" on Letterman the other night and was absolutely intrigued.  One would think it was the singer's flashy zebra/leopard print shirt (I love it, not gonna lie).  Or, maybe it was the whistling (always catchy).  But, what really made them stand out was that they were playing a sweet ass XYLOPHONE.  When was the last time you heard a band use a Xylophone in a way that mattered?  Been a long time for me.

To recap:

Xylophone.
Whistling.
Sweet Prints.
Catchy pop tune.
Indie rock dance jam.
Done.
And, done.

Check out Oberhofer's new record Time Capsules II out March 26th on Glassnote Records.

Drag Queens Love Chick-Fil-A

"Some day somebody's gonna make you wanna gobble up a waffle fry"  COME ON.  I love it.

I wonder what my Chick-Fil-A Boyfriend Justin Clark has to say about this.  My guess is that he wishes that he had their Twitter handles so that he could bully them on the internet into thinking it's their fault that Chick-Fil-A hates them, all the while being secretly jealous that he can't put on a dress, get a MAC makeover and ensconce himself in waffle fries while singing songs in the style of Wilson Phillips with his best gurls.  Wah wah

Nice work, ladies!  I support.

New Single: The Cribs

I was absolutely OBSESSED with The Cribs' Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever when it came out.  I think I listened to it on repeat every day, all day for two months straight.  One of my all-time faves.  Then came Ignore the Ignorant.  It was good, but I just didn't latch on like I did before.  The band had been signed to a Warner Bros. and I don't think that the combo was working.  For anyone.  So, I'm delighted to find out that the band has been busy working on a new record and are signed with an indie.  YAAY!  This can be nothing but good.  "Come On, Be A No-One" is the latest single from In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull, to be released May 15th on Wichita Recordings.  I freaking love this song.  It's got all the things I love about The Cribs: raw energy, catchy hooks and addictive melodies.  They're back and I LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. it!!!

Way Back Wednesday: Ronnie Milsap

I'm not sure what emo-gene came over me and made me pull this one out of the vault.  It's a good one though.  My sister is on a road trip with her family and for some reason it made me think of Ronnie Milsap's "Smoky Mountain Rain."  When I looked that one up, "It Was Almost Like A Song" came up as well and is actually my fave by him.  I remember being an emo 10 year old and crying to this song.  They had a great year.  She left.  His heart is broken.  He's blind!  Cue tears.  It's almost like a song and it's almost too much.  Preach it, Ronnie.

If I could sing, this would be my new karaoke song.

New Single: The Gossip

I don't usually watch commercials, but I can't help but stop in my tracks every time the Charlize Theron J'Adore commercial comes on because it features The Gossip's "Heavy Cross" in it.  Damn, that song f&*king rocks.  I fell in love with The Gossip with "Standing in the Way of Control" (another song that f&*king rocks) and have been a fan ever since.  Beth Ditto has a killer voice and is a true rock star.  See them live and they'll blow you away.  Hence, my super excitement for their new single "Perfect World."  While it doesn't have the one-two punch of the aforementioned songs, it makes me feel like I'm a female working in a steel mill and also in a strip club, but I'm really a ballerina.  Flashdance on the mind is always a good thing.  And, so are The Gossip!
